Mock server
We’ll discuss the available and most used mock server in the market, mostly open-source ones.
Here are some goals to keep in mind
- Should be free
- It should support all the basic mocking features
- Must support importing the mock endpoints from files
- Should have CLI
- Should have GUI for web browsers
- To spin up the docker container, it should only need 1 image and no other dependencies
Below is the list of options:
| Name | Pros | Cons |
|---|---|---|
| Postman Mock | - Best for large organization - Multiple user and group management - Rich features than any other Mock servers in market - Has web GUI - Have standalone app for windows/apple/linux | - Paid - Does not have GUI for web browsers |
| Mockoon | - Supports folder and Faker library for response generation - Provides import/export - Have standalone app for windows/apple/linux | - Does not have GUI for web browsers |
| Mocko | - Has web GUI - Satisfy all the basic features - Fast and free | - Dependent on 4 images to spin the container - Does not support endpoint loading from files |
| Mocky | - Free to use - Cloud based | - Not open-source - Does not allow custom endpoint routes - Managing endpoints is hard as each endpoint needs secret key to edit |
| Wiremock(Chosen) | - Open-source - Supports file import export - Has CLI option - Runs from only one docker image - Supports regex for URL mapping | - Does not have web GUI |
