What is Governance?

Governance is a centralized access management platform that controls access to resources. It acts as the single source of truth for who can access what resources under which conditions.

Governance consists of two core components:

  • Policy Information Engine (PIE) — stores roles, permissions, and assignments
  • Policy Decision Engine (PDE) — evaluates access requests and makes authorization decisions

Current features

  • User Synchronization — automatically syncs user data from the Platform service and keeps user information up to date for organizations using Governance
  • Authorization Service — determines whether a principal has permission to access a specific resource
  • Role Management — allows assigning roles to principals on specific resources (RBAC)
  • Team Management — enables creating teams, assigning roles to teams on resources, and automatic permission inheritance for all team members
  • Governance Library — a client library that products use to interact with Governance and perform authorization checks
